This afternoon at 15:15, the first final of all the pairs tournaments at the TOTO Dutch Open Darts was played. Hagen Stelter and Bernhard Haider faced off against Vincent d’Hondt and Jurgen Vercammen.
For Vincent d’Hondt, this wasn’t his first time. The Belgian had won the pairs tournament at the TOTO Dutch Open Darts last year. Stelter and Haider, on the other hand, had not yet won any titles at this tournament and were making their debut in this final.
The first leg was closely contested. Both teams averaged 68, aiming for their first leg. Stelter checked out double 16 in 22 darts to take the lead.
In the second leg, d’Hondt and Vercammen leveled the score. With a 180 from d’Hondt, it seemed like they might take the leg, but Haider had other plans. With a brilliant 120 score, he set up the leg on 36, and Stelter was able to hit double 18 to give them the lead. The third leg also went smoothly to the international duo.
With a 0-3 lead, it seemed like the match was heading in the direction of Stelter and Haider. However, the Belgians made a comeback by winning the fourth leg, their first of the match, bringing the score to 1-3.
Unfortunately, d’Hondt and Vercammen couldn’t continue their momentum. Stelter and Haider stayed calm and clinched the final, finishing with a double 20.
