The Dutch Open Darts, the world’s largest and most enjoyable open darts tournament, will continue to be held at De Bonte Wever in Assen for the next five years. The Dutch Darts Association (NDB) and De Bonte Wever have recently signed a new long-term agreement.
This extension builds on an extremely successful partnership and allows the Dutch Open Darts to continue its impressive growth in the years ahead. Thousands of participants, ranging from dedicated amateurs to the world’s top professionals, will continue to throw their darts in Assen through at least the 2031 edition.
De Bonte Wever has hosted the Dutch Open Darts since 2014. Since that first edition, which attracted around 4,000 entries, the tournament has grown every year and has become increasingly professional. Today, the number of entries has more than doubled, additional competition categories have been introduced, and the Thursday warm-up tournaments have become a permanent part of the event.
“The new agreement with De Bonte Wever is fantastic news for all players and spectators”, said Paul Engelbertink, Managing Director of the NDB. “De Bonte Wever’s ambitious expansion plans perfectly match our own ambitions for the continued growth of the Dutch Open Darts. This enables the tournament to keep expanding at this trusted and proven venue over the coming years. Together, we will continue investing to make the Dutch Open Darts an even better experience for players, visitors, partners, and volunteers.”
De Bonte Wever expands
Construction is currently underway on a new main building at De Bonte Wever, located along Assen’s ring road. The development includes 76 additional hotel rooms. In the coming years, a brand-new 3,000 m² event venue will also be built, designed to meet the demands and expectations of modern-day events.
Christa de Ruiter, Managing Director of De Bonte Wever, is equally enthusiastic about welcoming thousands of players and spectators to Assen in the years ahead. “The Dutch Open Darts fits us like a glove. We’ve built a fantastic relationship with the NDB, and we see it as a great challenge to take the event to an even higher level over the coming years.”
The Dutch Open Darts guarantees four days of darts, entertainment, and a fantastic atmosphere. The finals take place on Sunday in De Bonte Wever’s main arena, in front of an audience of more than 1,000 spectators. In recent years, the stage programme has been broadcast nationally on RTL7, featuring top-class matches, reports, and expert analysis.
